VigyanShaala is on a Mission to make Quality STEM education accessible to the most marginalised across India, through our unique data drive approach to identify key barriers and nurturing local undergraduates as community role models. We are committed to closing the access, attainability and quality gap in STEM education through guided mentoring and prepare youth for the technology-focused workforce of the future. Started as a volunteer movement in 2015, we have so far conducted 50+ workshops, engaged 10,000+ school/college students and their teachers with exciting hands-on science.

We have spent much of the last year interacting with students and teachers on the ground – personally visiting 110+ schools, 15+ colleges and 3 District Institute for Education and Training (DIETs) to document challenges of STEM education in the state and support evidence backed policymaking.  Also, supporting students from some of the remotest colleges in Rudraprayag, Almora and Pithoragarh districts. Our unique model is bridging STEM professionals, rural undergraduates and school students to facilitate cross-age peer mentoring and nurturing STEM Skills at scale.

We are ambitious, have bold ideas and need your support to scale-up our efforts. Through our first Crowd Funding Campaign on our 2nd anniversary, we aim to raise ₹25,00,000 to support learning and mentoring of 30 undergraduate STEM Champions from Uttarakhand, giving them an opportunity to quality STEM education through exciting research projects with some of the finest mentors from across the globe. These STEM Champions will further engage 2500 rural school students in their communities with fun hands-on science.

Our founder Darshana started mentoring Shivani back in 2015 after we organised a workshop for female postgraduates in her college SGRR PG College Dehradun. Mentored by Darshana, Shivani went to do fully sponsored internships at TIFR Hyderabad (2015) and Forschungszentrum Julich, Germany (2016). Shivani is presently pursing PhD in Physics at the Memorial University of Newfoundland, Canada and is now part of the core team of VigyanShaala leading our Kalpana Network and an avid STEM communicator. Shivani has also mentored two other students Neeraj (B.Sc. Biotechnology) and Priya (M.Sc. Chemistry) from her college, both coming from very challenging socio-economic backgrounds. Priya is now a Gandhi Fellow and Neeraj has joined Azim Premji University for her postgraduate studies to become an innovative STEM educator.
